Wrong done in the past sometimes has a nasty habit of returning to our doorstep. We are reminded of things we had long forgotten and had forgiven. Grief and pain sets in. Yet we cannot leave it and the snake becomes a rod that we use to beat ourselves. We become consumed with regret and false sorrow. We have forgotten that what matters is how God sees us in Christ and not how we see ourselves. We cannot unpick the past; it is fixed, yet it must not be allowed to consume us and bring us low although its effects may still be with us. Either our burden of sin was lifted from us at Calvary or it remains.

Anxiety and an ungrateful heart walk hand in hand. Both fail to recognise that for all things we are dependent upon the grace and mercy of a loving heavenly Father. The earth does not give of its fruit without His working; no anonymous natural law provides us bread. We see the creative work of God in giving us seeds to plant, and we see His providence in making all things grow, sending rain, giving life.

Turn and Live ...  Click on the title to read part of this sermon by Richard Baxter

GOD made you for everlasting life. The sad truth is that you have no knowledge or experience of it. You look at yourself and your life in a completely different way. You may feel content, but this is an illusion. In fact, your situation is one of pitiable misery.

Freedom from worry ...  Click on the title to read part of this meditation by George Mϋller

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7)

“Be careful for nothing”; that is, “Be anxious about nothing,” no anxiety ought to be found in the believer. Great, many, and varied may be our trials, our afflictions, our difficulties, and yet there should be no anxiety under any circumstances, because we have a Father in heaven who is almighty, who loves His children as He loves His only begotten Son, and whose very joy and delight it is to succour and help them at all times and under all circumstances.
